graduation

So... a month later..... here are some pictures of my graduation.

My mom and sister Mara both came to support me (and Tyler, of course!), which is funny because they were the only two at my high school graduation, too! Being the youngest in the family, while it does have its perks, also has sucky points as well. Such as, everyone has already been to a dozen other graduations for family members so no one wants to go to mine. And for both graduations my dad had last-minute trips to Asia for business, so he couldn't make it.

So, I was definitely expecting this graduation to be super long and super boring.. and it surprisingly wasn't. It was only about an hour long and it really flew by, which I was grateful for :)

Overall it was totally surreal. As I was standing in line waiting for my name to be called, I actually started crying a little bit! Don't worry, I got over it fast, but it was just such a weird feeling to think that I was accomplishing such a huge goal and ending that major chapter in my life. Crazy.

It was actually kind of funny because I was the very last name to be called! That's definitely never happened in my life before. And after reading off all those crazy Indian and Asian names from my department, the guy reading the names took one look at my card and had to ask me how to pronounce my name. Seriously, dude? We all got a good laugh at that.

So here are some pictures. It's funny because I felt so big at the time, but now I look at them and realize that now I really am so big.

All done! I thought that I would be bored out of my mind once I graduated, but I actually feel like I'm busier than ever! My favorite part, though, is not having that nagging feeling in the back of my mind that there is more that I should be doing... more studying, working on a paper, an upcoming exam, etc. because that feeling NEVER goes away when you are in school. So now when I have down time, it's actually legitimate down time with nothing else on my mind. And that, my friends, is pure freedom!

In the meantime, I have been making things for the baby, setting up and deep cleaning the nursery (our house is so old and there is dirt encrusted in every single crevice!), still working at PF Changs, reading (just finished the Hunger Games trilogy and LOVED it!), trying to be a better wife by cleaning and cooking for my husband now that I don't have an excuse not to (haha), and volunteering. I'm still planning on applying to the University of Utah's genetic counseling program for next year, so I'm working at the Utah County Crisis Line, I just had volunteer orientation to work with hospice patients, and I am starting next week as a volunteer as a therapist at Primary Children's outpatient clinic. Hopefully all these things will help me stand out in my application so I'll get in! So needless to say, I have actually been quite busy. But it's a good kind of busy, because it's all things that I want to do, instead of things that I have to do.

So that's a big old update on me and my post-undergrad life! More posts to come on what I've been working on for the babe :)
