work.

I had work tonight. My job is really really fun in some ways, and really really stupid in others. Being a server is a good experience, though. We always talk about how we feel that everyone should be a server at some time in their life, just so they can know what those poor kids have to go to so you can have your weekly date night.

It's actually a lot of work. And mostly very frustrating. I get ignored, literally shooed away by people when I'm just trying to take their order but they won't stop talking, looked down upon and talked down to because I'm the "help", under appreciated, and sometimes people even snap their fingers at me or wave their arms up at me from across the restaurant. Yeah. That's not embarrassing at all, let me tell you.

But then I get that one magical table that makes all those stupid and rude tables worth it. The couple from New Jersey that loved my earrings. Or the boys from New York that chatted with me about Mormonism. Or the double date from Highland that gave me the most hilarious marriage advice. Those are the tables that are so fun and so worth it! And what all those rude people don't understand, is that when you are cool to your server, you get much better service, and often some free food, too. Funny how that works. And that's why everyone should be a server. So they would all get that, and all treat the "help" with some respect. That would sure make my job a lot more enjoyable.

Valentine's Day is coming up this weekend. That means a 12-hour shift with no break and me running around like a chicken with its head cut off every minute of it. But it also means $250-$300 in one day (depending on tips) that I get to take home in cold hard cash... which is why I keep coming back to work.

I hope we were one of the good tables, even though we took up part of your sections for almost 3 hours! :)
