First of all, I have a sister and a nephew that live in China and we ALWAYS miss them. They came to town for our wedding, and luckily for us Jaydon was able to stay a little longer and spend some time with us! Before he left to spend the rest of the summer with his dad in Chicago, though, Tyler and I thought it would be fun to invite him and my other nephew Brennan over for a little sleepover party! Oh gosh, it was seriously SO fun!
They arrived at our house around 6pm and we took off right away and saw Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs in 3-D. If you don't already know, I totally LOVE the Ice Age movies, so I was just as excited to see this as the boys were. Before the movie, though, we made a stop at a convenience store and told the boys they could each pick out two treats. They, of course, picked the most disgusting sugary treats imaginable -- cola and froggy gummies, sugary goo stuff, gummy worms, etc. Even before we had arrived at the theater Brennan already said it was the best night of his WHOLE life hahaha. He doesn't get much junk food at home, I guess :) Well, Ice Age 3 didn't disappoint -- it was hilarious! We all loved it and had some good laughs (in 3-D of course).
We got home and got in our jammies and thought it would be fun to play some games... and the game of choice was JENGA. Feast your eyes on these hilarious pics. And yes, in case you were wondering, this was a very intense game. Brennan was TERRIFIED the whole time.
Yeah, that's right. I lost. The second after I knocked them over Jaydon exclaimed, "Phew, I'm sure glad YOU lost and not ME!" ...gee, thanks, buddy haha
After we played some more games we watched the classic kids movie Hook and ate some popcorn and ice cream. Then it was definitely bedtime... 11:30pm. So late!
Our plan was to hike the Y in the morning... it's the big painted "Y" on the side of the mountain overlooking Provo that stands for BYU. The boys were SOOO excited about it and packed their hiking clothes and snacks for the long trek. We get all ready to go and pack up a bag of snacks and water and pile in the car. Luckily it's only about a 5 minute drive from my house because just as we arrived at the trail head, Jaydon informed me that neither of them had the tennis shoes on. Both the boys were wearing flip flops! Silly Krystyna for not checking! So we had to go back home and get the proper shoes on. When we finally parked the car and started on the trail it was already getting hot and we were losing shade. Have no fear, the boys said, we are so strong we will RUN to the top!
There are 11 switchbacks to get to the top of the trail. It's less than a mile, but pretty steep. Before we even reached the first switchback this is what the boys looked like:
They just needed a little rest.
After the little rest we plowed on... on to the first switchback where they needed another little rest... halfway to the second switchback both boys declared that they could not walk ONE MORE STEP, that's how tired they were. They were moaning and groaning about how their feet hurt and it was too hot and we were going too fast and they didn't even care to see the Y anyway. HA! So we turned around and went back to the first switchback and ate all our snacks and enjoyed the view :)
